At Once Sport, we’re not just about software; we’re about connections, inspiration, and revolutionizing the world of sports coaching. Recently, we embarked on an exhilarating trip to Portugal, diving headfirst into the vibrant football community, catching up with friends and clients, and forging new partnerships.

Join us as we recount the highlights of our journey through various phases.

2024 Football Coaches ANTF Forum in Viseu

Our journey took us to Viseu, where we joined the 2024 Football Coaches Forum – the biggest meet-up for football coaches in Portugal. With over 1200 coaches from all corners of Portugal and Portuguese communities worldwide, the vibe was buzzing, and there were tons of chances to learn and connect. Great organization by ANTF (Associação Nacional dos Treinadores de Futebol – National Association of Football Coaches).

The forum featured some big names, like Luis Castro, currently Cristiano Ronaldo’s Head Coach at Al Nassr. He had some interesting stuff to say about coaching and developing players, which got us thinking about new ways to approach the game.

Abel Ferreira, the coach of Palmeiras and 2 times winner of the Libertadores, was also present. His story of success was super motivating, showing us what it takes to make it big in football coaching.

We can’t forget about Jorge Braz either, who shared his experiences winning the World Cup and European Championship with the Portugal futsal team. His insights into the game added another layer of depth to the forum.

In between all the talks, we got to show off our software, Once Video Analyser, and Once Autocam to a bunch of coaches who were curious about how it could help them. We gave them a deep overview of how our tech can change up training routines and make performance analysis even better, and they were pretty excited about it.

Looking back on our time at the ANTF forum, we’re stoked we got to hang out with other football professionals, share ideas, and dive deeper into the world of coaching. Our trip to Viseu wasn’t just about attending a forum; it was about connecting, getting inspired, and ramping up our commitment to shaking things up in football coaching.

Presentation to students at ESDRM

As our journey through Portugal’s football scene unfolded, our next destination was ESDRM, Escola Superior de Desporto de Rio Maior, a hub for aspiring sports professionals. Following our exciting time at the ANTF forum, we were thrilled to connect with dozens of students eager to learn about Once Video Analyser.

ESDRM, known for grooming future football coaches, provided the perfect backdrop for our presentation. Guided by professors André Freixieiro and Eduardo Teixeira, we introduced Once Video Analyser to a group of enthusiastic students.

We walked them through the basics, from tagging and tracking to live analysis and tactical exercises, sparking their interest and curiosity. The atmosphere was great as students discussed the practical applications of Once Video Analyser in their future careers. They were eager to explore how our software could enhance their coaching strategies and player development.

As we wrapped up our time at ESDRM, we left with a sense of fulfillment. Our visit wasn’t just a presentation; it was an opportunity to empower future coaches and inspire them to embrace innovation in their journey ahead.

Meeting with Estoril Praia

After our enlightening visit to ESDRM, our journey took us further south to Estoril. Here, we met with Rodrigo Ferreira, the youth coordinator, to explore the potential for collaboration. Excitement filled the air as we discussed the possibility of forming a partnership with the club, known for its successful football school, and its first team, competing in the first division of Portuguese football.

Rodrigo graciously welcomed us and offered a glimpse into the club’s facilities, showcasing the infrastructure that supports their burgeoning talent. As we toured the premises, it became clear that Estoril Praia was not only dedicated to excellence on the field but also to the holistic development of its young players.

Our discussions extended beyond the boardroom as we immersed ourselves in the action, joining the U19 team for their training session. It was an invaluable experience, witnessing firsthand the dedication and passion that drives these young athletes to pursue their dreams.

As we bid farewell to Estoril Praia, we left with a sense of optimism for the future. Our meeting with Rodrigo had laid the groundwork for a promising partnership, one that would not only benefit both parties but also contribute to the growth and development of football at grassroots levels in Portugal.

A visit to our long-time partner Pedro Henriques

After our visit to Estoril Praia, we hopped across the Tagus River for our final stop before flying back home. We had to catch up with Pedro Henriques, our partner of three years. Pedro is an extremely successful futsal coach. I mean, during his time with Benfica, he was nominated for the best female futsal coach in the world award. Twice!

We met him at Setubal Football Association, where he’s busy working with the local football association. It was awesome finally meeting him face-to-face!

Pedro showed us around their digs and we got talking about how we could team up with the federation and all the teams they oversee. Setubal’s football scene is no joke – they’ve got over a hundred teams and thousands of athletes playing everything from football to futsal and even beach football.

As we chatted about collaboration ideas with Pedro and his colleagues, the possibilities seemed endless. From sharing tech to helping out with training, we brainstormed ways to make a real impact in the local football community. It was inspiring to see how dedicated Pedro and his team are to developing young talent and promoting the sport.

Looking ahead

We’re filled with gratitude for the warm reception and enriching experiences we had in Portugal. We met countless inspiring individuals, enjoyed thrilling moments, and forged partnerships that hold immense promise.

To everyone we met along the way, thank you for your hospitality and enthusiasm. We can’t wait to return to Portugal, armed with fresh ideas and renewed determination to push the boundaries of sports coaching.

And oh, amidst all the meetings and presentations, we also savored the thrill of attending a game at Porto, a memory we’ll cherish as we eagerly anticipate our next adventure.
